Poultry: Chicken, Pekin Duck, Turkey & Emu

Pasture to plate · Pasture-raised poultry

Chickens that got to be chickens.

Out in the grass with room to scratch and forage. Keep them whole, let us do the cutting, or plan ahead for a seasonal harvest.

Why pasture

Fresh ground every day.

Birds on pasture move, forage and get fresh ground daily. They grow slower than most store chicken, and we think you can taste it.

Two chicken bundles. Order online.

Know your cuts

Whole bird, or pieces.

  • Split breasts
  • Thighs
  • Drumsticks
  • Wings
  • Backs & necks for stock
  • Feet

Save the carcass and try our bone broth or a whole roast chicken.

Straight answer

Our NC poultry exemption, explained.

North Carolina lets a farm process healthy birds it raised itself, on its own farm, under a state poultry exemption. The exemption means there is no inspector standing at the line checking every bird the way a USDA plant works. It doesn't mean no rules and no oversight.

  • We are on the state's list of approved farms. Rivas Ranch, LLC is on the NCDA&CS Poultry Exempt Firms list.
  • We are inspected by the NCDA&CS Meat & Poultry Inspection Division. How the state runs poultry exemptions.
  • We only process healthy birds we raised ourselves. Never birds bought in from somewhere else.
  • Exempt birds can't carry the USDA or state inspection mark, so ours are labeled as exempt.

Know how your poultry is processed.

  • Most of our poultry goes to a local, family-owned, USDA-inspected plant.
  • Out-of-state orders come only from USDA-inspected processing.
  • Our on-farm exemption birds are not USDA inspected, labeled separately and sold only in North Carolina.
  • On-farm birds aren't automatically halal. Tell us what you need and we'll check the specific bird.
