A Rivas Ranch community pledge
Buy Beef,Give Beef.
A little extra at the table.
When you buy beef from us, you have a seat at the Rivas Ranch table. We want there to be seats for your community too. With any half or whole beef, we'll send two extra boxes home with your order, about 7 lb each, for you to pass on.
Why we do this
We believe in building longer tables.
And we mean it. We believe a farm has a responsibility to give back to the community that feeds it. This is how we put our money where our mouth is.
We've also learned that giving to someone specific does more than giving to something general. A couple of dinners for a family that could use a hand reach further than the same food spread thin.
So we give through you. You know your neighbors, coworkers and church family in ways we never will. You know who's new in town, who's had a rough few months and who just needs to be reminded someone's thinking of them.
We give with dignity. No fanfare, no speeches. Just good food passed from one table to another.
Growing up, whenever a family was in need or a crisis hit, my grandmother was the first one to put her apron on. Some of my favorite memories are of her and all five of my aunts lined up in the kitchen making trays and trays of enchiladas and platters of nachos. Mostly enchiladas.
My mom and dad gave the same way. If they saw kids in need or a family going through a hard time, they'd quietly help, sometimes by picking up new clothes for the kids. Nobody announced it. It just got done.
My husband, Jeff, is the same way. So many times he's quietly supported someone behind the scenes, and most people never knew it was him.
If you've followed our story for a while, you know the direction of Rivas Ranch changed overnight when Hurricane Helene hit. Our whole family jumped into relief work. World Central Kitchen is one of the charities closest to my heart. I've done recovery work after Hurricane Ian and the California wildfires, and when Mississippi went through its water crisis, Jasmine and I went down and handed out water.
Giving is easy when there's an emergency. It's harder in between.
Those everyday moments matter just as much: a few extra chairs at the kitchen table, more people sitting down and breaking bread together, a few meals dropped off without any fuss. Serving food with dignity is precious, and it's underrated.
We all go through stretches when a helping hand we didn't expect makes a real difference. Buy Beef, Give Beef is how we give back without waiting for a disaster. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to reach the right people than through you.
April
How it works
Three steps. No paperwork.
Reserve your beef
Choose a half or a whole. Pick your processing date and fulfillment the way you always would.
Take the pledge
We'll invite you to help build longer tables. It's your choice. If you say yes, you're promising to pass both boxes on.
Pass them on
Your two boxes come with your order. Give them away within 15 days so they're still fresh when they arrive.
The two boxes
One to welcome. One to share.
Each box is about 7 lb, and we choose what goes in it.
Box 01
The Connect box
A first taste of farm-fresh food for someone who's never bought straight from a farm, or who's been looking for a farm to connect with. Pull up another chair.
Good for: the friend who keeps asking where you get your beef, the curious coworker or the new neighbor.
Box 02
The Dignified Extra
A couple of dinners for someone who could use a hand up. They don't need to be in crisis. We all hit stretches when a little support we didn't expect goes a long way. It might be a family having a hard month, someone from church or the neighbor down the road.
"Hey, we have a little extra at our table, and here it is."
The pledge
Take the pledge.
Longer tables make stronger communities. We look out for one another, and we don't do it for the credit.
Rivas Ranch
The Buy Beef, Give Beef Pledge
We believe in building longer tables.
As part of the Rivas Ranch table,
-
I pledge to give both boxes away and not keep them for myself.
-
I pledge to pass them on within 15 days, so they're still fresh.
-
I pledge to give the Connect box to someone new to buying from a farm, or looking for a farm to connect with.
-
I pledge to give the Dignified Extra quietly and with dignity, to someone who could use a hand up.
Given with dignity. Kept on the honor system. The same two boxes come with any half or whole beef.
There's no form and no follow-up survey. You tell us you're in, and we take your word for it. We don't track where the boxes go or ask for proof. We trust you.
Who it's for
Any half. Any whole.
| Your purchase | Extra boxes |
|---|---|
| Half beef | 2 (one Connect, one Dignified Extra) |
| Whole beef | 2 (one Connect, one Dignified Extra) |
| Quarter beef | Not included |
Questions
Good to know.
Do I have to take the pledge?
No. It's an invitation. Your beef is the same whether you join or not.
Why give through customers?
Because you know your community better than we do. When the food goes to a specific person you know, it does more good than a general donation would.
How should I give the Dignified Extra?
Low-key. It doesn't need a speech, a photo or the word "charity." Something like "Hey, we have a little extra at our table, and here it is" is plenty.
What's in the boxes?
We decide, based on what we have. Each box is about 7 lb, and it won't be only beef. It may have chicken, or pork when pork is appropriate.
My beef is halal. What about the boxes?
If you told us your beef must be halal processed, both boxes are halal too, and there's no pork.
When do I get the boxes?
They come with your beef, at the same time as your order.
Can I keep one?
That's the one rule. Both boxes go to other people. We trust you to keep the pledge.
Why 15 days?
So the food is still fresh when it reaches the person you're giving it to.
I'm buying a whole beef. What happens?
You get the same as with a half: two boxes, one Connect and one Dignified Extra.
There's room at the table
Fill your freezer.
Save a few seats.
Reserve a half or whole beef, and we'll invite you to help build longer tables.
